This year Canada Day falls in the middle of the week so for a lot of us there is no long weekend. But it is still a very important and significant holiday in Canada. The people across the country will be celebrating whether at home with families and friends or joining in the multitude of festivals in many cities.
On July 1, 1867, Canada became a self-governing dominion of Great Britain and a federation of four provinces: Nova Scotia; New Brunswick; Ontario; and Quebec. The anniversary of this date was called Dominion Day until 1982. Since 1983, July 1 has been officially known as Canada Day.
In many towns and cities, municipal governments organize a range of events, often outdoors. These include pancake breakfasts, parades, concerts, carnivals, festivals, firework displays and citizenship ceremonies for new Canadian citizens. The celebrations often have a patriotic mood. Canada’s national flag is widely displayed and a lot of people paint their faces red and white, which are Canada’s national colors. The celebrations in Ottawa, which is Canada’s capital city, are particularly exuberant.
As I admired the wonder of sunsets

I find myself
inside the sky painting
infinity I face
by the lake
I call my heaven
each sunset
allows me to create
in my mind
a myriads of many levels
unspoken meanings
today I found
another burst of golden sky
watching in disbelief
the natural beauty
of dusk fast approaching
I take it in
for tomorrow
another magical display it will be

It was a perfect spring day in June
I watch him as he prepares the lure
Who is this child which possess such patience
I stopped questioning
For today I was glad
He was with nature
Instead of the PC
He cast his line
Releasing it as the bait hit the water
Sat down patiently awaiting
I imagine that a simple tug
Then another
Would bring glee to his heart
Private anticipation
Waiting for the perfect time
The line tightened upon the water
It surely was a tug, and yes another
His heart racing
He held his breath
In perfect motion
Set that hook and catch the “Prize”
There was not one but six
He witnessed
Small mouth bass as they are called
But only one was determined
To get at that bait he used
He tried to loosen himself from the hook
But this young man was more determined
He could not help himself
A loud squeal he released with glee
He smiled with great pride
Admired the catch
But the real gift was the hours
He had spend by the lake side
He did not know

This is another picture during our visit to Sauble Beach in December 2008 during the Christmas holidays. Glorious sunshine filled day it was.
“Look round and round upon this bare bleak plain, and see even here, upon a winter’s day, how beautiful the shadows are! Alas! it is the nature of their kind to be so. The loveliest things in life, are but shadows; and they come and go, and change and fade away, as rapidly as these!”
